Celebrating Thai Pongal: A Festive Blend of Worship and Social Responsibility

On the auspicious occasion of the Thai Pongal Festival, the Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) embarked on a meaningful journey to spread joy and bring positive change to the lower Division of Thalanga Estate in Galle District. This year, on January 14, 2024, VOPP not only engaged in a special pooja worship but also extended its outreach by distributing learning materials to 31 school students living below the poverty line.The event was held from 09.00 am to 10.30 am. 

The celebration was more than just a religious observance; it became a beacon of unity for the residents. Community activists, youths, women, religious leaders, and dedicated estate workers actively participated in the event, forging bonds and fostering a sense of togetherness.

The focal point of this year's Pongal Puja was to earnestly pray for people to receive their rightful opportunities and lead fulfilling lives. The prayers resonated with a sincere desire for justice, equality, and prosperity for all. The event served as a platform for collective aspirations towards a brighter future.

Educational Empowerment:

As part of their commitment to uplifting the community, VOPP took a step beyond traditional celebrations. Recognizing the importance of education, the organization distributed learning materials to 31 school students who find themselves living below the poverty line. This initiative aimed to break barriers and empower young minds to overcome challenges through knowledge.

The event witnessed the presence of distinguished figures, including the Executive Director of the Voice of the Plantation People Organization and other officials. Their active involvement underscored the importance of such initiatives in creating a positive impact at the grassroots level.
