Celebrating Thai Pongal: A Festive Blend of Worship and Social Responsibility in Deniyaya

On the auspicious occasion of the Thai Pongal Festival, the Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) embarked on a poignant journey, seamlessly blending religious observance with a profound commitment to social responsibility. This year's celebration on January 15, 2024, at the Deniyaya Estate in Matara District, marked a significant milestone for VOPP as they extended their outreach beyond the customary religious rituals.

Worship with a Purpose: The day commenced with a special pooja worship, a moment of spiritual reflection and gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon the community. However, VOPP took their celebration a step further, infusing it with a deeper sense of purpose. The organization collected funds from various individuals, jewelry shops, medical shops, restaurants in Negombo, and contributions from individuals abroad and Chilaw. These funds were utilized to purchase educational materials for 113 school students living below the poverty line in Deniyaya Estate.
