Ensalwaththa Estate, Mathukoba Division — April 11, 2024
In the heart of the tea plantations, where the mist weaves through the leaves and the earth smells of promise, the Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) convened its 4th Women’s Focus Group Meeting. On the 11th of April 2024, the modest meeting hall at Ensalwaththa Estate buzzed with anticipation.
A Facilitator’s Guidance
Mr. Anton Wanaththaiya, the dedicated Field Manager, took the
reins. With a warm smile and a wealth of experience, he skillfully guided the
program. The women leaned in, their eyes reflecting curiosity and
determination.
Current Life Situations
The dialogue unfolded, revealing the tapestry of these women’s lives. They
spoke of early mornings in the tea fields, of children’s laughter, and the
weight of responsibilities. Their stories echoed resilience—the juggling act
of work, family, and dreams.
Future Plans
As the sun streamed through the windows, Mr. Wanaththaiya steered the
conversation toward the horizon. The women shared their aspirations: education
for their children, better healthcare, and a voice in decision-making. They
yearned for a future where their daughters could dream beyond the tea
leaves.
A Call to Unity
The 4th Focus Group Meeting was more than a gathering; it was a promise. The
VOPP continues to champion understanding, advocacy, and empowerment. These
women, their voices woven into the fabric of the hills, are the architects of
change.
