Galle, Sri Lanka — April 20, 2024
In the vibrant coastal city of Galle, where the waves kiss the shore and history whispers through ancient streets, a pivotal moment unfolded. The Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) orchestrated an impactful Community Peace Dialogue—a gathering that transcended boundaries and ignited hope.
A Sequel to Understanding
This event served as a sequel to the discussions held on
April 3rd and 4th. It was a day when communal harmony took center stage, and
the voices of our community echoed with purpose. Here are the key highlights:
- Southern
Malaiyaga Region: The youth and women of our community converged,
recognizing the long-standing issues faced by the Southern
Malaiyaga Tamil community. Their struggles, often hidden in the
shadows, were brought to light. Sinhala and Muslim participants stood
shoulder to shoulder, united in their newfound awareness.
- A
Revelation and Resolve: The dialogue was a revelation—a moment when
hearts opened, and minds connected. Our participants pledged to champion
the cause of the Southern Malaiyaga Tamil people. Their commitment was
unwavering: to be the voice that resonates until it reaches the ears of
the relevant authorities.
- Empowering
Voices: The power dynamics must shift—from the grip of Estate
Management to the capable hands of Local Government Bodies. By
empowering local decision-makers, they can shape policies that truly serve
their communities.
- Threads
of Understanding: As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm
glow over Galle, we wove threads of understanding and advocacy into the
fabric of our society. Together, we are not just voices; we are a chorus
for change.
A Call to Unity
Join us in this journey—a journey toward unity, justice, and compassion. Let us listen, learn, and lift each other toward a brighter future. The Malaiyaha community deserves our unwavering support, and together, we can be the change we seek.
