The recent Workshop on the Importance of Democracy held on 23rd February 2024 at the Christian Church in Hulandawa, Akuressa, marked a significant step towards this goal. With active participation from 50 students, educators, and community members, the workshop served as a platform to instill democratic principles and inspire responsible citizenship.
Led by passionate individuals dedicated to fostering
democratic ideals, the workshop commenced with a warm welcome by Mr. Anton
Wanaththaiya, setting the tone for an enriching experience. Mr. Anthony
Jesudasan eloquently outlined the objectives, emphasizing the need to
strengthen democratic values within educational institutions. Through a series
of engaging lectures and role plays facilitated by Mr. Weerasingam, fundamental
aspects of democracy were elucidated, focusing on the significance of
fundamental rights and freedoms.
One of the workshop's key highlights was the active
involvement of students in group activities and educational games. These

successful execution of the workshop. The generous funding provided by the US
Embassy played a crucial role in making the event possible, demonstrating their

in achieving its objectives. Participants emerged with a heightened awareness
