Empowering Future Leaders: VOPP Hosts Workshop on Democracy at Dadalla Al Mubarak Vidyalaya

Galle District, Sri Lanka - June 19, 2024 – The Voice of the Plantation People Organization (VOPP) successfully conducted its 8th workshop on the Importance of Democracy at Dadalla Al Mubarak Vidyalaya School. The workshop, facilitated by Mr. Weerasingam, saw the active participation of 43 students, with school teachers and the principal also attending as observers.

Mr. Weerasingam led the workshop, providing a thorough exploration of democratic principles and their significance in contemporary society. Through engaging discussions and interactive activities, students were able to identify and analyze key democratic issues, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of democratic values.

As part of their ongoing commitment to student support, VOPP, with the generous backing of the US Embassy, provided school bags to all participating students. This initiative underscores VOPP's dedication not only to educational enrichment but also to addressing practical needs that support students' overall well-being.

The involvement of school teachers and the principal as observers added an extra layer of insight and validation to the workshop, fostering a collaborative environment that bridged the gap between educators and students.

This workshop is part of VOPP's broader mission to empower young minds and cultivate a generation of informed, active citizens. By instilling democratic values and promoting civic engagement, VOPP aims to inspire students to become proactive leaders in their communities.

The success of this workshop highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in educational initiatives. VOPP remains steadfast in its mission to promote democracy and empower communities across Sri Lanka.
